Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa.  ? Jan. 3, 2009 ? The Robert Morris University Colonials dropped the second game of the series to the Bemidji State Beavers, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center. Bemidji led for the entire game except for a three minute span in the second period when the two squads were tied at 1-1. Bemidji State improves to 3-15-2, while the Colonials drop to 8-11-1.

Just like last night's events, the Bemidji State Beavers got the first taste of action. At 6:30 in the first period freshman Marlee Wheelhouse grabbed a pass from junior Ashley Leopold and fired a hard shot from just inside the blue line on the left side of the ice that deflected off a Colonial defenseman and into the net for the first goal of her career. Leopold and sophomore Lexy Paranteau were credited with the assists.

At the end of the first period the Colonials outshot the Beavers 11 to seven, but were unable to find the net in any of their attempts. Neither team was able to capitalize on a power-play, as BSU earned two penalty kills and RMU notched one.

The Colonials were finally able to answer back at 10:54 in the second period and tied things up at 1-1. Senior Alissa Dorman (Madison, Wisc. / Madison Capitals) sent the puck over to teammate Kylie Rossler (Regina, Saskatchewan / Regina Rebels), who flipped the puck high into the left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

At 14:00 in the second, Bemidji benefitted from a power-play and was able to regain their lead when sophomore Erin Cody slipped the puck past Colonial goaltender Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames). Sophomore Erin Johnson and Wheelhouse added the assists.

The Beavers improved their lead to 3-1 at 4:52 in the third period when sophomore Carissa Ketcher took hold of a rebound shot and tossed the biscuit into the net, with the assists made by junior Nicole Rawlings and senior Brooke Collins.

Bemidji State goalie Alana McElhinney finished the game with 22 saves, while McLaughlin ended with 20. BSU finished the game going one of four on power-play advantages, while RMU was zero for six.

The Colonials return to action on January 9-10 in Syracuse, N.Y. to take on CHA foe Syracuse, with both games starting at 7:00 p.m.
