Box Score Loudonville, N.Y. - For the third consecutive game, the Robert Morris University field hockey team has needed to take the contest into overtime play for a final result. Sunday's match up at Siena College continued the trend, however, the Saints were able to outlast the Colonials, 4-3 in double overtime.
Siena got on the board eight minutes into the game, but Robert Morris' Erica Musson (Columbus, Ohio / Liberty) netted her first career score to even the contest at one. The freshman's first goal was assisted by fellow first-year player, Kylie McKain (Elizabethtown, Pa. / Elizabethtown).
The back-and-forth action continued just a few minutes later when the Saints regained the lead at 15:58 of the first to make the score, 2-1.
But once again, the Colonials came storming back as sophomore Chantele Crow (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin) netted two consecutive goals to give Robert Morris its first lead of the afternoon. Her first tally, scored at 31:10 of the first half, was assisted by Hayley Botha (Johannesburg, South Africa / St. Mary's). Crow's second goal, recorded at the 62:49 mark of the second, featured an assist from sophomore Sam Hayden (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption).
With only 10 minutes left in regulation and down, 3-2, Siena notched the game tying goal thanks to Andrea Caso's goal off of a deflection.
In the first overtime, both teams held the other scoreless while the Saints blasted 13 shots at junior goalkeeper Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard). The Colonials managed three shots in the first overtime period.
Finally in the 86th minute, Siena's Caroline Hunnewell shot into an open cage to net the game winning score.
Seeley made the start in goal and recorded 21 saves in the loss.
The Colonials are now 2-9 overall and 1-3 in NEC action. They will play defending NEC champions, Lock Haven on Friday, Oct. 16 at Charlotte E. Smith field on the campus of Lock Haven University.
