Box Score Hamden, Conn. - On Friday afternoon, the Robert Morris University field hockey team traveled to Quinnipiac University to begin its final road trip of the 2009 season. The Bobcat defense held strong as they shut out the Colonials, 4-0, at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field. With the loss, Robert Morris falls to 2-12 and 1-6 in the NEC.
Junior Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) once again made the start for RMU in goal and stopped seven shots.
The Bobcats' first three goals came off penalty corners. Christine Grady got the Bobcats on the board with less than two minutes left in the first half, when Megan McCreedy found her near the top of the circle. Grady then sent a shot through traffic in front of the net to beat Seeley and give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Kimberly Cunniff scored the next two nearly identical goals within two minutes of each other to give the Bobcats separation. She took the first penalty corner and rocketed a low shot from straight away near the top of the circle that left Seeley helpless at the 42:55 mark. At the 44:33 mark, McCreedy tapped a pass to Cunniff off a penalty corner. Cunniff again smoked a shot from the same area that went slightly higher off the ground but had the same result to put the Bobcats on top, 3-0.
Finally, Grady added her second goal of the game at the 65:08 mark off a deflection from Seeley's pads to seal the 4-0 win for Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats' defense held the Colonials without a shot in the game, and outshot the Colonials, 20-0, while also taking a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Colonials will close out the 2009 season this Sunday at Sacred Heart when they face the Pioneers at 2:30 p.m.
