Robert Morris Posts 5-4 Win at Allegheny

Meadville, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team evened its overall record on the 2009-10 campaign at 2-2 with a 5-4 win over Allegheny Tuesday afternoon at Robertson Complex.  

The Colonials earned three singles victories and took two of the three doubles matches to earn the win. At the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights, freshmen Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) and Samantha Alves (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil / Rio De Janeiro) each earned victories.

Chen defeated Lauren Kristofco, 6-1 and 7-5, while Alves posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Elyse Schmitt at the No. 2 flight. 

Chen and Alves also teamed up at the No. 1 doubles flight to post an 8-4 victory over Kristofco and Sara Longo to improve to 3-3 in doubles play this season, including 3-1 in dual-match action. 

Also posting a singles victory for RMU was freshman Tiffany Meinert (Turtle Creek, Pa. / Oakland Catholic), who earned a 6-1 and 7-5 win over Janna Dickerson at No. 5 singles.

Meanwhile, freshman Isabella Novella (Santo Andre, Brazil / Santo Andre) and sophomore Ekaterina Rudneva (Leningrad, Russia / Leningrad) teamed up to post an 8-5 win over Schmitt and Deborah Landau at the No. 2 doubles flight. 

Robert Morris concludes its 2009 fall schedule Sunday, Oct. 11, when it welcomes Loyola (Md.) to the North Athletic Complex.
