Box Score Fairfield, Conn. - In front of a large crowd on Sunday afternoon, the Robert Morris University field hockey team closed out the 2009 season on the campus of Sacred Heart University. The Pioneers scored early and often as they had no trouble finding the back of the cage to down the Colonials, 5-0.
Only two minutes into the contest, the Pioneers took a 1-0 advantage that they would carry into the half thanks to a score from Kelsey Zeyher.
In the second period, the Sacred Heart offense exploded with four goals beginning at the 43:24 mark with Dana Luhr's unassisted tally. Then at 51:33, Luhr assisted Chelsea Carlson to extend the Pioneer lead to 3-0.
Sacred Heart's fourth goal of the afternoon would be Zeyher's second of the day which she netted late in the second period at 62:05. Finally, the Pioneers capped off their scoring frenzy with their fifth and final goal from Whitney Russo.
Junior Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard) started and played the first 63 minutes for the Colonials as she picked up six saves and allowed four goals. Freshman Paige Neat (Louisville, Ky. / Christian Academy) saw action in the remainder of the contest and gave up one tally.
Robert Morris recorded seven shots, four of which were on goal. The Colonials also picked up six penalty corners.
With the loss, Robert Morris concludes the 2009 season with an overall record of 2-15 and 1-7 in NEC action. During the 2009 campaign, Seeley set an NCAA single-game record with a 24 save performance against Ohio.
