RMU Splits with Wagner to End Regular Season

Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University softball team concluded its home season at the North Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon as the Colonials hosted NEC opponent, Wagner.  The Colonials defeated the Seahawks 7-1 in the opening game and fell 7-5 in the second.

After the split, Robert Morris improved its overall record to 23-19 and conference record to 10-6.

Freshman Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) made the start for the Colonials in both games, picking up one win and one loss.  Combined, she struck out 12 and walked three in 11 1/3 innings of work.  Her record is now 18-5.

To start off the Colonial scoring in game one, RMU put up four in the bottom of the first to steal an early lead.  Freshman Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) led off the game with a home run deep to center field. Senior Lauren Nisivoccia (Nutley, NJ / Mount St. Dominic) then scored on a pass ball while sophomore Kayla Crooks (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brashear) followed up with a double to score two for a 4-0 advantage.

The Seahawks scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth, but the Colonials responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.  Nisivoccia continued her hitting streak with a triple to pick up two RBI and seal the 7-1 win.

In the second contest, Wagner tallied one run in the top of the first but RMU tied the game in the bottom half of the frame.

The Colonials then took the lead in the bottom of the second with a two run effort off hits from Allie Patton (Poland, Ohio / Poland) and Timko.

Wagner deadlocked the game at three in the top of the third and then added three more in the fifth.

Attempting a late comeback, Robert Morris grabbed two scores in the bottom of the fifth inning off wild pitches by the Seahawks hurler.

Wagner then tacked on an insurance run in the sixth as they hung on to down the Colonials 7-5.

Sophomore Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief in game two giving up just one run.

With Sunday's action, the Colonials concluded scheduled regular season play as they prepare for the NEC Tournament on May 8-9.  However, makeup games with Quinnipiac are still pending.
