Seeley Sets NCAA Record as Colonials Fall to Ohio

Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. - On a sunny Friday afternoon, the Robert Morris University field hockey team opened the 2009 home season at Joe Walton Stadium against the Ohio University Bobcats.  The Colonial defense, led by junior goalie Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard), put forth a stellar effort but was unable to hold off Ohio as the Bobcats earned the 2-0 victory.

Despite Ohio putting 18 shots on goal in the first half, the score was deadlocked at zero at the end of the opening period of play.  Finally, at the 44:16 mark of the second, the Bobcats tallied their first goal to take the 1-0 lead.  Sixteen minutes later, Ohio struck for a second time to extend its lead to two scores.

Seeley made 24 saves on the afternoon, a personal best and a new RMU record.  Previously, the Robert Morris record was set at 14 saves in 2007.  Since the NCAA began keeping Div. I Field Hockey records in 2006, Seeley's performance of 24 stops now ranks first for individual saves in a single-game.

Robert Morris (0-4-0 ; 0-0-0 NEC) will now head back on the road to face Georgetown on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m.  The game will be played at American University.
