Chardon, Ohio / Sand Ridge G.C. - The Robert Morris University men's golf team sits in ninth place after one round of play at the Cleveland State Telich / Sunlife Financial Invitational being played at Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio. The second round was suspended due to darkness with nearly a quarter of the field left to finish.
The Colonials posted a team score of 320 in the opening round. Junior C.G. Mercatoris (Brookville, Pa. / Brookville) finds himself in a tie for 11th place after 18 holes on the wind-swept par-72, 7,062-yard layout. Mercatoris posted a four-over par 76. Freshman Brock Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) posted 78 and sits in a tie for 25th.
Senior Joe Kabana (East Stroudsburg, Pa. / Notre Dame) and freshman Brandon Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) each carded rounds of 83 and are tie in 51st position. Freshman Max Cahn (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) shot an 86 and is tied for 63rd.
Malone College leads the event at 295 led by current leader Justin Lower's one-under par 71. Cincinnati is second (305) followed by IPFW (306), South Dakota State (308), Oakland and Youngstown State (310), Wisconsin-Green Bay (313), North Dakota (318), RMU (320), Butler (321), Cleveland State (322) and King (324).
The Colonials will finish out their second round and then play the third and final round of the tournament tomorrow, September 29.
