Pittsburgh Airport Colonial Classic, the RMU men's golf team finds themselves
three strokes off the lead and sitting comfortably in second place. The 6,570
yard, par-72 layout at The Club at Shadow Lakes proved more difficult than the initial
impressions gave yielding an average score of 81.41, nine strokes over par.
Colonials senior C.G. Mercatoris (Brookville, Pa. /
Brookville) fired a round of two-under par 70, despite bogeys on each of the
last two holes, and holds a two-stroke lead heading into the final round on
Tuesday. The senior carded 35 on the front and back, managing four birdies, 12
pars and two bogeys during the round.
Clarion University holds the team lead with a 301 total.
RMU is three strokes back at 304 followed by Mount St. Mary's (317), Toronto
(318), Laval (325), Robert Morris “Blue” (326) and Maryland-Eastern Shore
(349). The Golden Eagles were led by Ross Pringle's 72 as he scored par on all
18 holes.
Sophomore Brock Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) is
in a three-way tie for fourth-place after carding a 75. The second-year man was
even par on the front nine and three-over on the final nine holes.
Sophomore Brandon Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell)
came in a round of 79 and is tied for 13th position among the 39
players in the event. He carded 38-41 for the day. Freshman Sam Migdal
(Ballwin, Mo. / Desmet Jesuit) shot 39-41=80 and is one stroke and five places
back of Brandon Pompeani. Sophomore Donny Lewis (Wexford, Pa. / North
Allegheny) rounds out the RMU “White” team sitting in a tie for 20th.
The former NA Tiger carded a one-under par on the front nine before posting a
46 on the back for a total of 81.
The RMU “Blue” squad was topped by sophomore Max Cahn
(Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) in seventh place. He totaled a 76 going out in 39 and in
in 37. Senior Shawn Courson (Parker, Pa. / Allegheny-Clarion Valley) matched
Lewis score while junior Robbie Holdcroft (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa. / State
College) posted a round of 84 to put him in 27th. Sophomore Jim Davis (Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) is 34th after an opening
round 85.
