Moon Township, Pa.-Robert Morris University men's soccer freshman midfielder Daniel Calabretta (Brampton, Ontario / St. Marguerite d'Youville) was named the adidad / Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference Monday. Calabretta becomes the third Robert Morris player to collect adidas/NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining classmates Miro Cabrilo (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale) (two-time winner) and Prince Samuels (Saint Catherine, Jamaica / Kingston College).
Calabretta accounted for both game-winners last week as the Colonials earned a pair of 1-0 wins over St. Francis (NY) and Long Island. In Friday's win over the Terriers, Calabretta converted on a rebound after a Francis Bowman free kick for the game's lone tally in the 51st minute. He capitalized in the same way against LIU on Sunday, collecting Justin Turnley's rebound and bouncing the ball off the crossbar and in from a near impossible angle in the 49th minute.
Calabretta, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, has scored three of the team's last five goals and now ranks second on the Colonials with four goals and nine points. He has recorded three game-winning tallies this season, which ties him for third in the conference.
Robert Morris embarks upon its final road swing of the regular season by travelling to Mount St. Mary's for a 7:00 p.m. contest Friday, Oct. 29.
