Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team faces an 18-game regular season schedule in 2011 beginning with local-rival Pittsburgh August 26. The Colonials host eight of those games at North Athletic Complex and will play the prestigious Mayor's Cup in Oneonta, N.Y.
Robert Morris faces Pitt in the season-opener for the third consecutive season when the Panthers visit North Athletic Complex Friday, August 26. The game marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Colonials kick-off their season with a home contest.
The Buffalo Bulls visit for a 4:00 p.m. contest August 31 before RMU hits the road for five consecutive games, the team's longest road trip since playing the first five games of the 2004 season on the road.
The extended travel session begins with three games against teams that Robert Morris has never played starting at South Florida for a 1:00 p.m. game September 4.
The Colonials return to the Oneonta, N.Y., Mayor's Cup Tournament for two games. The Mayor's Cup is the longest running college soccer tournament in the country with 2011 marking the 32nd annual cup. RMU last played in the "Soccertown, U.S.A." event in 2005, splitting a set of games with Oneonta and Hartwick. This time, they take on Cornell Sept. 9 and the Fairfield Stags Sept. 11. It will be the first game against either team.
Robert Morris finishes the five-game swing by traveling to Canisius Sept. 14 and Cleveland State Sept. 18. RMU ends the non-conference schedule by hosting cross-town rival Duquesne in a 4:00 p.m. match Sept. 22.
The 10-game Northeast Conference schedule opens eight days later when Sacred Heart journeys to Moon Township Sept. 30, two days before RMU hosts Fairleigh Dickinson.
Four consecutive conference road games follow starting with Central Connecticut State (Oct. 7). The Colonials also play at Quinnipiac (Oct. 9), St. Francis (N.Y.) (Oct. 14) and Long Island (Oct. 16).
A three-game homestand features two-time defending NEC champion Monmouth in a 3:00 p.m. match Oct. 28, but not before Bryant comes to call Oct. 21. The stand wraps up with Mount St. Mary's Oct. 30 and the regular-season ends one week later when the Colonials travel to Saint Francis (Pa.) Nov. 6.
