Colonials Set Program Record With Sixth Win

Box Score Boone, N.C. - Sept. 25, 2011 -The Robert Morris field hockey team set a new program record with its sixth win of the season on Sunday, topping Appalachian State 4-3 on the road. Freshman Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) notched a pair of goals in the contest including the game winner while junior Paige Neat (Louisville, Ky. / Christian Academy) earned her first win of the season in goal for the Colonials.

A day after snapping its three-game winning streak, Robert Morris (6-5 overall, 0-0 NEC) didn't wait long to find its way on the scoreboard. Hartley opened the day with her third goal of the season at the 6:00 mark when she put her first of the day in the net with a setup from freshman Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell). Appalachian State (1-7, 0-0 NorPac) would respond with a goal just over three minutes later, but the Colonials would go into halftime up 2-1 after sophomore Eloise Irwin (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin) tallied her first goal of the year at 33:48.

After the break, Scott would give RMU a two-goal cushion at 38:46 when she knocked in a rebound for her third score of the season. Appalachian State would cut into the lead just under five minutes later to make it a 3-2 game, but Hartley, who had a game-high four shots on goal, would notch the eventual game winner at 61:38 with her second of the day. ASU would threaten the lead with the game's final goal at 67:22, but the Colonials would hold on to pick up their sixth win of the season - topping the program's previous record of five wins set in 2008.

Neat picked up her first win of the season against ASU, stopping four shots. The Colonials return to action with a West Coast road trip next weekend, traveling to nationally ranked Stanford and Pacific.
