Robert Morris Downs Allegheny, 6-1

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team posted its first victory of the 2011-12 campaign Tuesday at the  North Athletic Complex, earning a 6-1 victory over Allegheny. RMU improved to 1-1 on the season in dual-match action with the win.

The Colonials earned singles victories at the No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 flights while also earning the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 1 and No. 3.

At No. 1 in singles action, sophomore Carolina Mourao Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Carolyn Shetter. At No. 3, junior Carla Limon (Cordoba, Mexico) defeated Elyse Schmitt, 6-1 and 6-4, while junior Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Laura Steele at No. 4.

Also posting singles victories for Robert Morris were junior Isabella Novella (Santo Andre, Brazil) and senior Ekaterina Rudneva (Leningrad, Russia). Novella posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Janna Dickerson at No. 5, while Rudneva knocked off Kathleen McBride, 6-1 and 6-1, at No. 6.

In doubles action, Mourao Teixeira and Limon teamed up for an 8-5 win over Shetter and Deborah Landau at the first flight, while Chen and freshman Kourtney Passero (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Central) downed Dickerson and McBride, 8-1, at the No. 3 flight.

Robert Morris continues its 2011-12 season with its first road trip of the year, visiting Baltimore, Md., for a pair of dual matches.

The Colonials will take on Coppin State Friday, Sept. 30, at 3:00 p.m, followed by a 10:00 a.m. match Saturday, Oct. 1, at Loyola (Md.).
