MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Sept. 4, 2011 -A day after tying a program record with four goals against Saint Louis, the Robert Morris field hockey team could not duplicate the result on Sunday, falling to Central Michigan 4-1. Junior forward Erica Musson (Columbus, Ohio / Liberty) tallied the Colonials' lone goal, her first of the season.
Central Michigan broke onto the scoreboard early in Sunday's afternoon contest when the Chippewas scored on a sliding shot by Erin Dye at 4:46 to take a 1-0 lead. Central Michigan would add a trio of second-half goals to take a 4-0 advantage before Musson would finally get the Colonials on the board.
The junior helped Robert Morris avoid the shutout when she tallied for the first time this season at the 67:00 mark, putting her attempt over the Central Michigan goalkeeper and into the net. Sophomore forward Charslie Branovan (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) assisted on the play, recording her first point of the year in the process.
Freshman Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) started the contest in goal for the Colonials. The goalkeeper made three saves and allowed four goals in 48:37 of action. Junior Paige Neat (Louisville, Ky. / Christian Academy) closed out the game in net, making three saves.
Robert Morris (1-3 overall, 0-0 NEC) returns to action next Saturday with the 2011 home opener against Colgate at 12 p.m. EDT. Saturday's contest kicks off a five-game home stand for the Colonials, who also will take on Lock Haven, Ohio, Lindenwood and Liberty over the stretch.
