Vint Ties Points Record in Narrow 3-2 Setback

Box Score Princeton, N.J. - Freshman Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) tied the single-season school record for points, but the Robert Morris University women's hockey team was unable to come away with a victory in its inaugural matchup with Princeton as the Tigers squeaked by with a 3-2 win in RMU's final non-conference action of the season Monday afternoon at Baker Rink.

Vint notched a primary assist at the 1:21 mark of the third period to tally the 32nd point of her rookie campaign, equalizing the top spot with six regular-season games remaining. She moved alongside current senior assistant captain Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) who registered 32 points during her freshman season of 2008-09. Vint also remains two scores shy of matching the Colonials' single-season goals record.

Sophomore Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) scored the goal that provided Vint with her record-tying point and hit double figures in goals for the season in the process. As a result, she became just the second Colonial ever to hit double digits in goals in each of her first two seasons at RMU. Imbrogno also moved into sole possession of sixth place in all-time points at Robert Morris with 55.

Freshman Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) provided the Colonials' opening score of the day to collect her second-career goal, and first on the road or in non-conference play. Collias has now picked up her first three collegiate points in the last five contests.

While Princeton came in with an extended layoff and Robert Morris was playing its third game in four days, the affair started out extremely even as each squad took 13 of the game's first 26 shot attempts. The game's first tally was then notched not long after the Tigers were granted their first power play.

Entering the game, Robert Morris had killed off 17 consecutive opposition penalties, but it was unable to continue the impressive stretch against Princeton as Danille DiCesare scored at the 14:25 mark of the first. RMU was not discouraged as it would take six of the game's next eight shot attempts before the horn sounded to close the opening frame.

Princeton would double its advantage early in the second with a goal off the stick of Rose Alleva.

The Colonials soon responded, though, as Collias pulled the visitors within one at the 7:04 mark as freshman Katie Fergus (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) and junior defenseman Jamie Joslin (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) registered assists on the play. The helper for Joslin represented the 25th point of her career.

Almost as soon as the Colonials drew closer, Princeton received another power play and once again took advantage as the Tigers took a 3-1 lead right near the midpoint of the game and held it into the second intermission.

Robert Morris came out full steam ahead in the third as it fired four shots on goal within the opening 81 seconds, and the final one off the stick of Imbrogno found the twine to close the gap to 3-2. Sophomore defenseman Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman Wildcats) joined Vint in adding an assist on Imbrogno's score.

The Colonials continued to have their way with chances in the third period as they outshot the Tigers, 12-6, but could not break through. RMU fired five shot attempts when it skated with an extra attacker in the final 62 seconds, but the Tigers were able to hang on and close out the game.

With its third-period power-play goal, RMU tied the single-season school record for scores with a man advantage (29) that it had set during the 2008-09 season.

In addition to being the first matchup between these programs, the contest also marked the Colonials' first-ever game on a Monday in school history.

With its non-conference schedule complete, Robert Morris will commence with the second half of College Hockey America (CHA) play this weekend as it will contest a second series with each one of its league foes on consecutive weekends. The Colonials will begin the stretch this Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4, as they travel to Syracuse for a two-game set.
