Hamden, Conn. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team lost in its season opener on Saturday evening as it fell to the nationally ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats 4-0.
After a scoreless first period, Quinnipiac would open with the first goal at 8:53 of the second frame. Â With under four minutes remining in the second, the Bobcats would double-up RMU with their second goal. Â The Colonials would allow two more goals in the third period, including a short-handed tally, to make the final score 4-0 in favor of Quinnipiac.
While the Colonials were unable to capitalize on eight power-play attempts, the squad picked up from last season when they had the nation's best penalty kill and killed all six of the penalties they took during the game. Â Senior forward Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College) led Robert Morris with four of the team's sixteen shots in the game. Â Three Colonials each registered a blocked shot in front of senior goaltender Eric Levine (Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) who registered 33 saves in the loss.
RMU will face an unusual turnaround as the two teams will square off in the final game of the series tomorrow with a Noon start.
