Box Score

University Park, Pa.  - In its opening affair with a College Hockey America (CHA) opponent, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team faced off against Penn State University at Greenberg Ice Pavilion in University Park, Pa.  The Colonials easily handled the Nittany Lions winning the contest 7-1.

RMU was led by forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) as the sophomore set a new personal record for goals scored in a single-contest with five.  With the five goals, Vint tied the RMU program record for most goals scored in one game. Two of Vint's goals came on RMU power plays, which allowed her to tie the program record for most power play goals scored in a single game.  The hat trick makes Vint just the sixth player in program history to tally at least three goals in a single-contest.

The forward line of assistant captain Cobina Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / Ottawa Jr. Senators), Vint and senior forward Kelsey Thomas (Hamilton, Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) were right fully named the three stars of the contest as the line contributed 12 of the team's 19 points.  On three of Vint's five goals, Delaney and Thomas tallied the first and secondary assists.

Thomas finished the contest with four assists while Delaney finished with three.  The four assists for Thomas ties her for third for assists in a single-contest while also tying a career best.  Thomas has now dished out 35 assists for her career which ranks her 7th  all-time and has registered 63 career points to rank 6th in program history.

Delaney's three assists is a new career best for the senior in a single game.  Delaney has now registered 40 assists in her career which ties her for fourth all-time in program history.  The three assists adds to Delaney's career points total, which is now 57, tying her for 7th in RMU program history.

Vint scored the opening goal of the contest with 9:58 on the clock in the first period.  Thomas and Delaney received the first and secondary assists on the score.

RMU's next three goals were scored in a total of 1:57.  The first of the three goals was scored by Vint on a spectacular backhanded shot on the RMU power play after a scuffle in front of the net.  Senior assistant captain Jamie Joslin (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) registered the primary assist on the score while junior defenseman Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman Wildcats) earned the secondary assist at 12:21 of the first period.

At 13:56 of the first, junior defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) added to the lead for RMU as she found the net past Penn State goaltender Nicole Paniccia on an unassisted goal.

Just 22 seconds later, Vint would score again for the Colonials, to make the score 4-0.  The goal was the third of the game for Vint with Thomas and Delaney notching their second assists of the game on the score.

The Nittany Lions kept the Colonials from scoring for the first eight minutes of the second period until junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) scored after a perfectly executed sequence of passes.  Sophomore forward Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) skated the puck into the offensive zone, to pass off to junior forward Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) who found a breaking Imbrogno for the fifth goal of the game.

Penn State would register a score of its own with four minutes left to play in the second period.  Shannon Yoxheimer scored the goal for the Nittany Lions while Taylor Gross registered the assist.

On the fourth Colonial power play chance of the game, Vint would score her fourth goal of the contest and second power play goal with assists again coming from Thomas and Delaney.  The fourth goal for Vint made the score 6-1, RMU.

The third period proved to be the best for Penn State as it only allowed one RMU goal which came with only four minutes left to play in the contest.  On another perfectly executed sequence, Thomas passed to a breaking Delaney who found Vint on the right post as Vint's put home her fifth goal of the game and the final RMU score of the contest.

With Thomas' hat trick two weeks ago at No. 7 Northeastern and Vint's hat trick this afternoon, it marks just the second time in RMU history where two separate players have tallied a hat trick in the same season.

The Colonials dominated just about every category in the contest as they outshot Penn State 43-15 and won 40 of 54 faceoffs.  The RMU penalty killed successfully shut down the four Penn State power play opportunities.

Senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) earned her seventh start of the season against the Nittany Lions.  Coming off an impressive weekend against Vermont, DiCiocco registered 11 saves in the contest.  DiCiocco now earns a record of 4-2-1 on the season.

Sophomore netminder Courtney Vinet (Camrose, Alberta / Edge School) saw action in the third period for RMU, making her first save of the 2012-13 campaign.  Vinet stopped three shots in twenty minutes of action.
