The Robert Morris University women's
hockey team earned its second victory of the 2012-13 campaign in a Saturday
afternoon contest versus the Vermont Catamounts, 6-2. Junior defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) led the RMU
scoring extravaganza as she tallied three points. For the second time in three games, senior
forward Kelsey Thomas (Hamilton, Ontario
/ Hamilton Hawks) finished the game as Robert Morris' leading goal
scorer.
St. Louis notched a goal and two assists in the contest
to tie a career single game-high for points.
St. Louis' two assists marks a career single-game record as well. The three point effort is the third
multi-point game of the defenseman's career.
For the second time is just three games, Thomas has
scored at least two goals for RMU.
Thomas' fourth and fifth goals of the season move her into a tie for
fifth place in all-time goals scored in program history with 28. The two goals also allowed Thomas to move
into sole possession of sixth place for career points with 59.
The first score of the game came off the stick of St.
Louis after a pass from junior forward Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) just 1:14 into play. With the assist, Richards has now registered four points in RMU's five games this season.
The second and third goals for RMU would come late in the
first period, but only 44 seconds apart.
Just 38 seconds into the second Colonial power play of the game,
junior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno
(Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) found the cage to register
her first goal of the season as well as the first RMU power play goal of the
year. Sophomore forward Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle
Tire) and St. Louis would register their first assists of the season on the
power play score.
The third Colonial goal, less than a minute later, took
place when senior assistant captain Cobina Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / Ottawa Jr. Senators) found sophomore
forward Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario /
Brampton Jr. Thunder) at center ice.
Vint skated the puck into the offensive zone, fired a shot on Vermont
goalie Roxanne Douville then rebounded her own shot into the net. With the assist, Delaney is currently the
assists leader for RMU with four.
Vermont would come out strong in the second period as it
scored its first goal of the game with only 29 seconds on the clock. Brittany Zuback scored the unassisted goal
for the Catamounts.
4:05 later, Thomas would add cushion to the Colonial lead
with a score of her own. After a shot
from forward Katie Fergus (Oakville,
Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) bounced to the left of the goaltender,
Thomas fired home the rebounded shot to
make the score 4-1. Junior defenseman Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman
Wildcats) notched the secondary assist on the score. The assists for Fergus and Pollack are their
first of the season.
Zuback would again respond for Vermont after the fourth Colonial
score. Zuback scored her second goal of
the game 9:39 into the second period.
Sarah Campbell and Dayna Colang were credited with assists on the
Catamount second goal.
After recovering the puck in RMU territory, senior
assistant captain Jamie Joslin (Richmond
Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) passed out to senior forward Jennifer Kindret (Winnipeg, Manitoba / BC
Breakers) who found Richards at the Colonial blue line. Richards guided the puck into the Catamount
zone and used nice stick work to get by a defender before placing a shot over
the left leg of the Vermont netminder for the fifth RMU goal. The assist for Joslin and Kindret marks their
first of the season.
The last RMU goal came just over the half way mark of the
third period. Thomas found the cage to
score her second goal of the contest. St.
Louis and Joslin would notch assists on the goal allowing them to tally their
second assists on the afternoon.

has scored so far this season. The team
also registered a season-high 10 assists against the Catamounts. In the afternoon contest, the Colonials
penalty kill unit successfully shut down all six of Vermont's power play
opportunities. The RMU penalty kill is
now 14-15 for the season.
