Anderson's Three-Pointer Sinks Campbell, 61-58

Karvel Anderson's (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) three-pointer with 4.5 seconds to play helped lift the Robert Morris University men's basketball team to a 61-58 victory over Campbell Tuesday night at Gore Arena.

The Camels had one last gasp, but Trey Freeman's three-pointer as time expired was off the mark, helping give the Colonials their first road win of the season.

RMU improved to 5-4 with the victory, while Campbell slipped to 3-6.

In a game that featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes, the Camels owned a 56-55 advantage with 1:19 to play after a dunk by Marvelle Harris.

Sophomore forward Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony) missed a jumper on RMU's next possession, but Anderson began the final flurry by stepping in front of a Freeman pass for a steal, setting up a fastbreak opportunity.

Robert Morris would convert to grab the lead back, 58-56, when Anderson hit a three-pointer from the wing with 41.9 seconds to play off a feed from redshirt senior guard Velton Jones (Philadelphia, Pa. / Northeast Catholic).

Harris came back to tie the game for the final time, 58-58, with a layup with 26.1 seconds remaining, setting up Anderson's game winner.

On the game-winning possession, Velton Jones drove the lane before kicking out to sophomore forward Lucky Jones. Lucky Jones dumped the ball off and set a screen, giving Anderson a clear look at the basket for his game-winning three-pointer.

A defensive battle all contest, RMU owned a 25-21 lead at halftime on the strength of a 10-for-12 performance at the free-throw line before intermission, including a 4-for-4 performance from Lucky Jones.

Junior forward Mike McFadden (Newark, N.J. / Technology) would give the Colonials a 30-25 edge with 16:39 to go after a pair of free throws, but Campbell used a 9-0 run to open up a 34-30 advantage at the 13:29 mark of the second half.

Harris and Darian Hooker each scored four points during the spurt for the Camels.

RMU came back to tie the score, 36-36, after a layup from Lucky Jones with 11:32 left in the contest, setting up a sequence in the final eight minutes in which there were six ties and five lead changes.

Anderson finished with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field for Robert Morris, including a 4-for-7 performance from beyond the arc.

The Colonials were led by Lucky Jones, who despite battling the flu contributed 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals. Lucky Jones visited the stripe 14 times, converting 11.

McFadden added 10 points and seven rebounds for Robert Morris.

Harris took home game-high honors in scoring with 21 points and also added 10 rebounds for a double-double as the Camels outrebounded RMU, 34-24. Reco McCarter added 13 points, two blocks and two steals for Campbell.

Robert Morris closes out a two-game road swing in search of its third straight win Saturday, Dec. 8, when it travels to Hampton, Va., for a 2:00 p.m. tip against Hampton.
