Littlestown, Pa. / Quail Valley Golf Club - The Robert Morris University men's golf team ran away from the field to
win the 2012 Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The
Colonials had the lowest team score in each of the final two rounds to win the
event by 13 strokes, firing a three-round score of 887.
RMU also had the three of the six lowest individual scores
at Littlestown's Quail Valley Golf Club highlighted by a pair of three-under
par rounds from freshman Ryan Prokay (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) and junior
Brock Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell). Prokay's round of 69 came in the
second 18 holes, giving him a temporary hold on first place. Pompeani,
meanwhile, came home with a 69 that helped the squad capture the team title.
Prokay equaled his best finish in a collegiate tournament
to date, tying for third place with a 221 total. He was two-under par through
the first two rounds before tallying a 79 in the final round of play. Brock Pompeani was forced to withdraw in the first round due to illness, but bounced
back to help with the team scoring by shooting a 75 in the second round. His
final round tally of 69 ties his career-low and ties Prokay's same score for
the lowest round by an RMU player this season.
Junior Brandon Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) garnered
his best finish of the year by tying for fifth-place with a total score of
six-over par. The junior opened play with a 72 before posting 75 in each of the
events final two rounds. Classmate Max Cahn (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) closed out a
trio of RMU players in the top-10 with his seventh place finish. He closed out
the tournament with the event's fourth-lowest score - a one-under par 71. He
shot 77-76 in the first two rounds to finish with a 224 total.
Senior Robbie Holdcroft (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa. /
State College) rounded out the team scorers in 21st position. He
carded a 76, 80 and 85 to finish with a 241 total over 54 holes.
Playing as individuals, junior Jim Davis (Wexford, Pa. /
North Allegheny) tied for 23rd (83-82-77=242) and junior Donny Lewis
(Wexford, Pa. / North Allegheny) was tied for 25th (79-84-82=245).
