Colonials End Weekend With Shutout Victory

Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris field hockey team concluded play as the host of the Colonial Classic on Sunday as they pulled out a 2-0 victory over Radford.

The Colonials (1-1 overall, 0-0 NEC) claimed the early lead on Sunday morning as freshman Jess Martin-Brown (Mount Gambrier, Australia) tipped in a shot from Marzana Fiedtkou (Georgetown, Guyana) after RMU was awarded a penalty corner in the 27th minute.  Sophomore Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) was credited with the second assist on Martin-Brown's first career goal.

Martin-Brown would extend the Robert Morris lead with her second goal of the day on a very similar set-up in the second half.  A shot from Hartley would find Martin-Brown's stick from about three meters out after the penalty corner pass from sophomore Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) in the 57th minute.

Despite a two-goal lead, senior goaltender Paige Neat (Louisville, Kentucky / Christian Academy) stayed strong in net for the Colonials as she made three saves in the match to record her first career shutout.

Martin-Brown was the only Colonials to contribute multiple shots-on-goal in a balanced attack that saw five players get the ball on net.  Fiedtkou recorded a defensive save in her second straight game and now has a total of three in the two Colonial contests this season.

Robert Morris returns to action next weekend with a pair of road games in Louisville, where the Colonials will open the road trip against Appalachian State on Saturday before taking on Saint Louis on Sunday. Both games are set for 11 a.m. starts.
