Colonials Drop Third Straight in Loss to Ohio

Box Score

Athens, Ohio - The Robert Morris University field hockey team traveled to Ohio University in a rematch of last season's contest that saw the Colonials knock-off their first ranked opponent.  This season, RMU fell by the score of 2-1 as the loss became their third straight after starting the season winning three of their first four games.

Starting her second game of the season, sophomore Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) allowed the game's first goal in the fifth minute.  The Bobcats' goal came off of one of their five penalty corners in the first half.  Less than ten minutes later, Robert Morris would respond and tie the game.  Freshman Jess Martin-Brown (Mount Grambrier, Australia) netted her fourth goal of the season after she deflected a shot by Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) past the Bobcat netminder.  The score would remain tied going as halftime approached with RMU being outshot 4-2.

The second half saw back-and-forth action from both teams as neither were able to solve the opposing goaltender for the first 30 minutes.  In the 67th minute, Ohio would capitalize on a loose ball in front of the Colonial goal crease that would put the Bobcats ahead 2-1.  The Colonials were unable to rally in the final three minutes as their three shots on goal were all saved by the Bobcat goalkeeper.

The Colonials return to action on Friday as they travel south to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty at 3:00 p.m.
