RMU's Streak Ends at Three with Loss at Kent State

Box Score

Kent, Ohio - The Robert Morris University field hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon as the team fell 5-2 to Kent State.

The Colonials looked to continue their streak as senior goaltender Paige Neat (Louisville, Ky. / Christian Academy) started her sixth game of the year.  Kent State would take the lead early in the game as they put home a rebound in the third minute.  Four minutes later, Kent State would double their lead.  Shortly after that, Neat would be pulled in favor of sophomore Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) after allowing two goals on three shots.  McKenzie would not fair much better as she would allow two more goals before the end of the first half as Kent State held a 4-0 lead.

RMU came out in the second half a different team as they netted their first goal less than two minutes after the half began.  Sophomore Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) scored her third goal of the season after fellow sophomore Michelle Lewthwaite (Macarthur, Australia / Westfield Sports) took a shot that Hartley deflected in.  Kent State would regain their four-goal lead in the 62nd minute before the Colonials would add a goal minutes before the final whistle.  Robert Morris' second goal would be Lewthwaite's first of the season with the assist credited to freshman Sophie Watt (Sawtell, Australia).

The Colonials will look to rebound tomorrow as they play Lock Haven in a neutral-site contest at Kent State University.  Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
