Box Score Pittsburgh, Pa. – RIT scored with five minutes left
in regulation to down the Robert Morris University women's hockey team 2-1 in
the inaugural meeting of the two teams Friday evening at the RMU Island Sports
Center.
RMU got on
the board first with just seconds remaining in the first period as senior
assistant captain Cobina Delaney (Stittsville,
Ontario / Ottawa Jr. Senators) scored her third goal of the season. The even strength score came with
19:07 on the clock when senior forward Kelsey
Thomas (Hamilton,
Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) found junior defenseman Kylie St. Louis (Windsor, Ontario / Southwest Wildcats) at the point. St. Louis fired a shot on net
that allowed the Delaney tip for the first RMU goal. The assist is the fourth
of the season for St. Louis and the tenth for Thomas. Thomas is now only four
assists short of breaking a personal-best for assists in a single-season.
RIT
senior captain Kim Schlattman scored the first Tiger goal on a power play
opportunity at 11:32 in the second period to tie the contest, 1-1. The score
marks the ninth of the season for Schlattman. Junior forward Kourtney Kunichika
notched the primary assist while senior defenseman Ariane Yokoyama tallied the
secondary assist.
After
a hard-fought and toughly battled 23 minutes of play, RIT would take the lead 2-1 when
sophomore forward Lindsey Craig found the cage at 15:00 of the final frame as
she scored her first goal of the season. Schlattman and freshman forward Katie
Hubert earned assists on the second Tiger goal.
RIT
sophomore goalie Ali Binninngton earned her sixth victory of the season
tonight. She registered a game-high 29 saves, 15 of which came in the third
period.
RMU netminder
Kristen DiCiocco
(Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres)
took the loss between the pipes for the Colonials. DiCiocco registered 17 saves
on the evening.
Despite the loss, RMU outshot the Tigers
30-19. The Colonials now owns an overall season record of 9-4-2 with a College
Hockey America (CHA) record of 5-2-0. RMU and RIT will faceoff tomorrow, Jan. 5,
in a rematch contest slatted for 2:05 p.m. at the RMU Island Sports Center.
