Pittsburgh, Pa. – Identically to last night's contest, the Robert Morris University women's hockey team scored the first goal of the contest but eventually fell 2-1, against College Hockey America (CHA) member RIT Saturday afternoon at the RMU Island Sports Center.

On a RMU breakaway, reigning CHA Player of the Month Rebecca Vint (Caledon, Ontario / Brampton Jr. Thunder) hit freshman Leah Carlson (Copper Center, Alaska / Kenny Lake) in the crease for the initial shot on net. Senior forward Kelsey Thomas (Hamilton, Ontario / Hamilton Hawks) found the puck at her feet and nailed home the rebounded shot at 3:23 in the first period. The assist is the 11^th of the season for Vint while the goal marks Thomas' 8^th of the year. The assist for Carlson of the first RMU goal is the first point of her career as a Colonial. The assist also marks the first point tallied by a RMU freshmen.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Tigers tied the game at one-a-piece with a power play goal. Just five seconds into RIT's first power play chance of the evening, senior captain Kim Schlattman won a faceoff in the offensive zone. The puck found of the stick of defensemen Kristina Moss who fired a shot on net. Assistant captain Tenecia Hiller tipped the shot for the first RIT goal.

Over halfway through the second period, RIT would capitalize first as both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. At 1:18 of the second period, sophomore forward Marissa Maugeri scored her second goal of the season after passes from Melissa Bromley  and Erin Zach.

The third period was evenly played by both squads as the shot count favored the Colonials only 5-3. Each team went 0-1 in the third on power play opportunities.

RIT netminder Ali Binnington registered a game-high 31 saves. Fourteen of her 31 saves came in the second period.

Senior goaltender Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres) earned the start for the Colonials. DiCiocco tallied 18 saves on the afternoon as she suffered the loss.

The Colonials are now 9-5-2 on the year with a 5-3-0 conference record. Robert Morris returns to action next week as it continues league play with Lindenwood. The Colonials and Lions faceoff at 3:05 p.m. on both Fri., Januart 11 and Sat., January 12.
