Kettering, Ohio / NCR Country Club – Junior Santiago Mejia (Bogota, Colombia / Blessed Hope) had one of the best 36-hole tournaments in Robert Morris University men's golf history while helping the Colonials tie for third at the University of Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club's North Course early this week.
 
Mejia started the event by carding a two-under par 68 on the 6,828-yard par-70 course in Kettering, Ohio. It was tied for the third-lowest total number and the seventh-lowest round relative to par in team history. The junior came back Tuesday to shoot a round of 72, placing him fifth and giving him his third top-10 finish in four events. His 36 hole total of 140 is the second-lowest score in a two-round tournament in the Colonials annals.
 
Sophomore Garrett Browning (Imperial, Pa. / West Allegheny) was hot on the heels of Mejia, finishing one stroke and one place behind his teammate. Browning shot par 70 Monday and was one-over par 71 in Tuesday's final round. His 141 was tied for the third lowest score in team history and secured his third top-10 in four tournaments as well as he placed sixth. Browning has won two events this fall.
 
The duo of Mejia and Browning helped RMU to a tie for third place at the 16-team event with a 582 total. That is the second-lowest team score in a 36-hole event ever by a Robert Morris team. Western Kentucky took first with a 566 team score, outpacing second place Cleveland State by 13 strokes. Evansville tied RMU with a 582 and Bradley rounded out the top-five teams with a 583.
 
Freshman Dean Hitt (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) used a second-rounds score of 71 to move up to 34th place overall with a 148 total. Sophomore Dan Maier (Irwin, Pa. / Penn Trafford) posted his lowest collegiate rounds with 77 and 76 to finish tied for 66th. Freshman Mac Cavanaugh (West Newbury, Mass. / Pentucket Regional) came home in 93rd (82-82=164).
