Box Score

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's hockey team earned their second sweep of the season with a 6-4 victory behind two goals from sophomore forward Anissa Gamble (Fredericton, New Brunswick / Burlington Jr. Barracudas).

A day after freshman Maeve Garvey (Oakville, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) registered the first multi-goal effort for a Colonial of the 2013-14 season, Gamble matched her output and in the same breath, scored the first two goals of her career.

For the third straight game, RMU struck first as junior forward Katelyn Scott (Brighton, Mich. / Belle Tire) snuck one past Vermont goaltender Madison Litchfield's five-hole for her first goal of the season. Junior forward Maddie Collias (Roseville, Mich. / Belle Tire) was credited with the only assist.

The Catamounts would storm back with two goals however, to take their first lead of the series. Victoria Andreakos passed it up to Brittany Zuback, and Zuback then found Amanda Pelkey at the right circle. Pelkey fired a slapshot past freshman goaltender Jessica Dodds (London, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) for her third goal of the series. Vermont would then take the lead two and a half minutes later as Klara Myren capitalized on a power play opportunity.

For the second time this series, senior assistant captain Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) would light the lamp on a power play. Senior captain Kristen Richards (Toronto, Ontario / Niagara University) passed it to freshman forward Brittany Howard (St. Thomas, Ontario / Burlington Jr. Barracudas) behind the net, and the freshman waited for someone to get open. That person would be Imbrogno, as the senior corralled the puck and beat Litchfield for her fourth goal of the season.

A little more than five minutes later, junior Rebecca Vint (Caldeon, Ontario / Brampton Junior Thunder) would give the Colonials the lead with her third goal of the season. Howard and Richards recorded the assists again – the freshman picking up her ninth helper of the year, while the captain tallied her second of three on the afternoon.

RMU would extend their lead to two goals at the 6:24 mark of the second period. Sophomore forward Ashley Vesci (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Lawrence Academy [Mass.]) gathered the puck off a turnover and found Gamble in front of the net. Gamble then beat Litchfield for the first goal of her career.

The Catamounts pulled within one 10 minutes later as Delia McNally took advantage of a checking penalty on Richards. Rachael Ade and Gina Repaci earned assists on the goal.

Less than two minutes later, Howard scored her third goal of the season with some fancy stickwork. Gathering a pass from fellow freshman Maeve Garvey, Howard would deke two Vermont defenders and catch Litchfield off-balance, giving her enough room to bury the puck. Richards registered her third and final assist of the contest on the goal.

Vermont once again pulled within one at the 14:59 mark of the final period. Seconds after Richards went to the box for hooking, Repaci found the back of the net off passes from Ade and McNally.

However, the Colonials would put it away with 1:55 left in the game. Senior assistant captain Brandi Pollock (Virden, Manitoba / Westman Wildcats) gathered a pass on the blue line and passed it to Vesci. Vesci's initial shot was saved by Litchfield, but the rebound trickled to Gamble, who then put it away for her second goal of the contest.

Dodds earned her fifth win (5-0-0) of the season after stopping 14 of 18 shots.

Howard tallied three points on the afternoon with her second period goal and assists on Imbrogno and Vint's scores. The freshman leads the team with 12 points.

RMU moves to 6-2-0 on the season and will open up College Hockey America (CHA) play with Penn State next week on Halloween. Faceoff for Thursday's contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the brand new Pegula Ice Arena.
