Moon Township, Pa. – Senior guard Karvel Anderson (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) tied a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from Robert Morris University and the Colonials snapped a two-game slide Thursday night with an 88-81 win over UT Arlington as part of the Keightley Classic.

The Colonials improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Mavericks dipped to 2-4.

Tied, 67-67, with 6:20 to play after Reger Dowell buried a three-pointer to cap a 10-1 UTA surge, RMU scored the next six points of the contest to open up a 73-67 lead with 4:41 to go.

Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate (Washington, D.C. / Charis Prep) scored a layup to give Robert Morris the advantage, while senior forward Mike McFadden (Newark, N.J. / Technology) buried a pair of jumpers.

The lead eventually swelled to 77-69 for the Colonials at the 3:22 mark of the second half after Anderson's eighth three-pointer of the contest, but the Mavericks clawed back.

McFadden picked up his fourth foul with 2:57 left and at the same time was whistled for a technical and his fifth foul of the game. Dowell hit both free throws as part of the technical, and Jamel Outler hit a pair at the stripe to pull UT Arlington to within 77-73.

The Colonials came up empty on their next possession, and Dowell got inside the lane for the Mavs and converted a layup to make it a one-possession game, 77-75, with 2:23 to go.

Anderson turned the ball over on RMU's next possession, but UTA couldn't convert. Junior guard Desjuan Newton (Seattle, Wash. / Central Arizona College) came through for Robert Morris, converting a layup from underneath the basket on a feed from Myers-Pate to push the Colonials' advantage to 79-75.

Robert Morris sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 9-for-10 at the chalk in the final 1:03 of action.

UT Arlington never led in the contest, falling behind, 14-0, in the first three and-a-half minutes as Anderson drilled three consecutive three-pointers early.

The Mavericks eventually trimmed their deficit to 28-22 with 8:25 left in the first half thanks to a three-point play from Dowell, but RMU quickly stretched its lead to double digits and eventually took its biggest lead of the game, 41-26, after an Anderson trifecta at the 3:32 mark of the first half.

UT Arlington used a 19-6 run that spanned the final three minutes of the first stanza and the first four and-a-half minutes of the second half to close to within 47-45 but were never able to grab its first lead of the game.

Anderson finished 8-for-11 shooting from the field, including 8-for-10 from beyond the arc, for a team-high 24 points to lead four Colonials in double figures.

Junior forward Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony) contributed 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, while junior guard Charles Oliver (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Lakeland Community College) supplied 11 points off the bench. Myers-Pate finished with 10 points, nine assists and four rebounds.

Dowell led UT Arlington with a game-high 26 points, including 21 in the second half. He finished 9-for-22 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-15 from long range.

Outler added 15 points off the bench for the Mavericks, while Vincent Dillard scored 11 points. Brandon Edwards recorded a double-double for UTA thanks to 10 points and 10 boards, while Lonnie McClanahan also scored 10 points.

Robert Morris closes out the Keightley Classic by returning to the road, visiting Cleveland State Saturday, Nov. 23, for a 3:00 p.m. tip that opens a four-game road trip.

Notes: Thanks to eight three-pointers, Anderson tied a Sewall Center record for three-point field goals by a student-athlete from Robert Morris … Anderson also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) and is one of six Colonials in school history to turn the trick … The overall Sewall Center record for three-point field goals is nine, which was set by Scott Murphy of Mount St. Mary's in 1991 and tied by Jamal Womack of St. Francis Brooklyn in 2007 ... Myers-Pate cracked the top 10 at Robert Morris for career assists thanks to nine against the Mavericks and now owns 340 career dimes ... In its three victories so far on the 2013-14 campaign, the Colonials have scored 86, 90 and 88 points ... In its two losses, RMU has scored 64 and 49 points ...
