Top Story – Robert Morris extended its unbeaten streak to six games on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory at Ohio State. The Colonials won their second-straight game with a game-winning third period goal from
Rebecca Vint, and
Jessica Dodds extended her record to 10-0-1. The victory also gave RMU its first as a nationally-ranked program, as the Colonials came in at 10th in both the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls released this week. RMU's 13 wins through its 17 games is a program record, surpassing the 11-4-1 mark that the 2011-12 Colonials previously set.
Â
Series vs. Maine – Robert Morris is 6-3-1 in 10 games all-time against Maine, but the two teams haven't played since the 2010-11 season. The Colonials played their second and third games as a Division I program against Maine in 2005-06, but were swept by the combined score of 7-2 (3-1, 4-1). RMU then went on a six-game winning streak against the Black Bears, but fell short in the teams' most recent series, as the Colonials went 0-1-1.
Â
Scouting Maine – Maine comes into the game as the only winless team in NCAA Division I Women's College Hockey. The Black Bears have managed ties against New Hampshire, Northeastern, and Connecticut, and lost by just one goal at Mercyhurst on Oct. 25. Senior defenseman Kelly McDonald and junior forward Jennifer More lead Maine in points with five each (2 goals, 3 assists), while junior goaltender Meghann Treacy has spent the majority of the time between the pipes. Treacy has compiled a record of 0-10-3 with a save percentage of .897 and goals-against-average of 3.88.
Last Time Out – This week the Colonials took to the ice in their only Tuesday game of the 2013-14 season, and came away with a 2-1 victory over Ohio State.
Â
RMU outshot the Buckeyes, 26-20, and held Ohio State scoreless on six power play opportunities.
Â
The Buckeyes struck first with a goal five minutes into the second period - the third straight time the Colonials' opponent scored first. RMU answered with a goal from
Brittany Howard off passes from
Brandi Pollock and
Kristen Richards three and a half minutes later. The goal was Howard's sixth of the season and her first since Nov. 16.
Â
A little more than four minutes into the third period, the Colonials would take the lead off a goal from
Rebecca Vint. The goal was Vint's team-leading ninth of the season and her second-straight game-winner.
Â
Jessica Dodds started between the pipes for the fourth straight game and stayed unbeaten, moving to 10-0-1 with a 19 save performance.
Â
Breaking Through – After four weeks on the doorstep of the Top 10, Robert Morris finally broke through this week as the Colonials slot in 10th in the USCHO.com and the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls. This is the first time RMU has ever been ranked in a national poll.
Â
The Colonials spent the last four weeks in the 'receiving votes' section of both rankings, getting as many as 10 votes in the Nov. 11 release of the USCHO.com poll and 16 in the Nov. 12 release of the USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine rankings. RMU received the most votes in both polls for a non-Top 10 team over the last two weeks.
Â
CHA rival Mercyhurst slid out of both polls following a split at RIT this past weekend, and only received two votes from USCHO and five from USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine. The Colonials beat the team ranked ahead of them, No. 9 Boston University, on Oct. 19 and will play No. 8/7 Quinnipiac on Jan. 17-18.
Â
The 100 Club – With a goal in the Colonials' 2-1 victory over Syracuse this past Saturday,
Thea Imbrogno inched closer to joining a prestigious club in Robert Morris hockey history.
Â
Imbrogno's next point will give the senior forward the 100th of her career, making her just the second player in the program who has reached that mark. Brianna Delaney is the only other player in school history who has accomplished the feat, as she tallied 121 points (53 goals, 68 assists) from 2008-12.
Â
The assistant captain is currently tied for second on the team in goals (6) and fourth in points (11). Imbrogno has done most of her damage on the power play, as she has scored four of her six goals with a man advantage.
Â
Road Warriors – Playing away from your home confines is tough in any sport, but Robert Morris has excelled outside 84 Lumber Arena this season. The Colonials are 6-0-1 on the road, with just a tie this past Friday against Syracuse as their only non-victory away from home.
Â
RMU has swept two teams in their home arenas, beating Bemidji State (2-1, 3-0) in early September and Penn State (4-0, 6-0) on the week of Halloween.
Â
On the road, the Colonials have averaged 2.86 goals-per-game and have allowed just 0.57 goals-per-game. In comparison, RMU has averaged 3.00 goals-per-game and allowed 2.67 goals-per-game at home.
Â
Know Your Enemy – Because Robert Morris hasn't played Maine since the 2010-11 season, only six current Colonials have familiarity with the Black Bears.
Â
Thea Imbrogno registered an assist in RMU's 4-2 loss on Nov. 26, 2010 and was one of four current Colonials (Imbrogno,
Kylie St. Louis,
Anneline Lauziere, and
Brandi Pollock) to play in that game.
Â
Two other players -
Kristen Richards and
Kelsey Gunn - faced Maine when they played for Niagara. Richards played in three games against the Black Bears, and scored the first goal in the Purple Eagles' 3-1 victory over Maine on Oct. 23, 2010. Gunn played twice against the Black Bears and notched an assist on Niagara's first goal in a 3-3 tie on Nov. 13, 2011.
Â
Two's Better Than One – Robert Morris goaltenders
Jessica Dodds and
Courtney Vinet are allowing two goals or less in their last nine starts, giving Colonials head coach
Paul Colontino two appealing options between the pipes each game.
Â
RMU is the only team in the nation that has two goaltenders ranked in the top six of their conference in goals-against-average and save percentage.
Â
Dodds leads the CHA in wins (10), winning percentage (.955), goals-against-average (1.44), and save percentage (.935), and is tied for second in shutouts (3). Meanwhile, Vinet ranks fourth in goals-against-average (2.00) and sixth in save percentage (.923). The junior also has a shutout to her name.
Â
Record Watch – Senior assistant captain
Thea Imbrogno ranks in the career top five in Robert Morris program history for points, goals and assists. 17 games into 2013-14 season, Imbrogno ranks second in career points and career assists. Imbrogno also ranks fourth in career goals scored with 45. If she finishes the year similar to her previous three seasons, then she could end up threatening at the top marks in all of those categories.
    Â
Imbrogno also holds spots in the same categories for single season performance. She worked her way into the single-season record books after an impressive sophomore campaign. Imbrogno ranks second in single-season points, tied for fourth in single-season goals scored and second in single-season assists.
Â
Junior forward
Rebecca Vint reset the single-season record book last season as a freshman, and added onto that with a successful sophomore campaign. 17 games into the 2013-14 season, Vint ranks fourth in career points and assists, and third in goals. She also holds the program's single-season records in points, goals, and assists, and cracked the top five in points (third) and goals (tied for fourth) after her second season.
Â
If Imbrogno breaks Brianna Delaney's career marks in her senior campaign, Vint could topple them in her final season as a Colonial in 2014-15.

I'll Take The Saturday Special – The Colonials have enjoyed Saturdays moreso than Friday evenings in this early season, as they have won all seven games played on the weekend's first day.
Â
Robert Morris has used Saturdays as bounce-back days this year, with three of those seven weekend wins coming after a Friday loss. The Colonials did this in their opening series against RPI, as they outlasted the Engineers in overtime to win 3-2, and then picked up a big 3-0 victory against No. 7/8 Boston University following a 5-2 loss the night before. RMU also came back from a 2-0 defeat to Mercyhurst with a 3-2 victory to split the series.
Â
The Colonials also have clinched three sweeps on Saturdays, as they beat Bemidji State 3-0 on Oct. 12, Vermont 6-4 on Oct. 26, and Lindenwood 3-1 last Saturday.
Â
RMU is scoring an average of 3.29 goals per game on Saturdays, while allowing just 1.43 goals per game. On Fridays, the Colonials average just 2.25 goals per game and give up 2.13.
Â
Looking Back – Robert Morris has played once on Nov. 29 in their history. Ironically, that game was against Maine as well.
Â
On Nov. 29, 2010, the Colonials came back from three deficits to defeat the Black Bears, 5-4, on Skate for the Cure weekend at the RMU Island Sports Center.
Â
Maine tallied the first two goals of the contest - with the first coming via power play - but the Colonials picked one back up at the end of the first period as Sara O'Malley buried a pass from Brianna Delaney.
Â
RMU would tie it up 10 minutes into the second period as Whitney Pappas scored off a pass from
Chelsea Walkland. However, the Black Bears responded with a goal two minutes later to take the lead again.
Â
The Colonials tied it up with less than six minutes in the second frame as O'Malley and Delaney hooked up for the second time. Maine went back up front 21 seconds into the third period, but RMU tied it up for a third time as Pappas found the back of the net for the second time.
Â
With 9:19 remaining in regulation, the Colonials would score the game-winning goal on the power play as Megan Picnic lit the lamp off passes from Kathryn Stack and Mallory Giambra.
Â
Pappas and O'Malley each scored twice, while Delaney registered three assists. Daneca Butterfield earned the win by making 27 saves.
