Moon Township, Pa. –
The Robert Morris University men's basketball team wrapped up the home portion of its 2013-14 non-conference schedule Thursday night with a 72-61 victory over Campbell at the Charles L. Sewall Center.

In picking up its second consecutive victory, the Colonials improved to 5-7 overall on the season, while the Camels slipped to 4-7.

RMU never trailed in the contest, surging out to leads of 11-5, 17-7 and 31-19 in the first half.

Junior forward Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony) bolstered the offense early with seven points as Robert Morris grabbed a 17-7 advantage at the 12:19 mark of the first half, while freshman guard Kavon Stewart (Paterson, N.J. / Hudson Catholic) gave the Colonials their biggest lead before halftime, 31-19, with a fastbreak layup off a steal with 5:58 left before intermission.

Campbell charged back late in the first half with a 10-2 run to close to within 33-29 with 52 seconds remaining as Andrew Ryan and Leek Leek each buried three-pointers. Jones would come through for RMU to help stem the tide, connecting for his own three-pointer with 3.9 seconds left to give the Colonials a 36-29 cushion at the break.

Jones scored 10 points and compiled three rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal in the first 20 minutes of action, while senior guard Karvel Anderson (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) converted a trio from beyond the arc.

Another three-pointer from Jones early in the second half bolstered Robert Morris to a 39-31 lead, but the Camels trimmed their deficit to 40-37 with 15:13 to play after a layup from Darius Leonard.

RMU was able to keep Campbell at bay, eventually taking a 47-40 advantage after a pair of free throws from senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate (Washington, D.C. / Charis Prep), but a 5-0 spurt for the Camels that featured a layup from Kayre' Hamer and a three-pointer by Antwon Oliver made it a one-possession game, 47-45, in favor of the Colonials at the 10:37 mark of the second half.

Junior forward Aaron Tate (New Bern, N.C. / Dodge City Community College) answered on RMU's next possession, hitting a jumper on a feed from Anderson that ignited a 9-2 surge for the Colonials.

Robert Morris eventually got its lead back to double digits, 62-52, with three minutes remaining after a layup from Myers-Pate and sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 6-for-8 at the stripe in the final two and-a-half minutes.

Jones paced the Colonials with a game-high 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and a 5-for-6 performance at the free-throw line. He also paced RMU with five rebounds.

Anderson added 16 points on the strength of a 4-for-7 performance from beyond the arc, while Myers-Pate reached double figures for the second straight game with a season-high 12 points and dishing out eight assists.

D.J. Mason led the Camels with 12 points off the bench and was the only player to score in double figures for Campbell. Andrew Ryan finished with seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds but struggled shooting the ball, hitting just three of his 11 attempts from the floor.

The home portion of its non-conference schedule complete, Robert Morris opens a five-game road trip Sunday, Dec. 22, with a 1:00 p.m. tip at Oakland in Rochester, Mich.
