Golightly Honored by Atlantic Hockey

Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team had a member of its 2012-2013 freshman class honored by the Atlantic Hockey Association for their performance this past week.  Defenseman Chase Golightly (Temecula, Calif. / Prince George Spruce Kings) was named the Travel Team USA/Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week after a three-point performance in the Colonials' three home games over the past week.

After the loss to Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Golightly would start the RIT series by contributing an assist in the 3-0 win on Friday night.  The defenseman would pick up a secondary assist in the Colonials' second goal of the game as he swung the puck around to his defense partner for the breakout pass leading to the 2-0 advantage for RMU.  Golightly also recorded a +2 rating as he was also on the ice for the game-winning goal while the two teams played 4-on-4 hockey in the second period.

In the second game of the weekend series against RIT, Golightly would continue to dish out assists as the California native recorded two more helpers in the 4-3 loss.  Both of the assists for Golightly would come as the Colonials were on the power play.  The first helper came as the colonials took a 2-0 lead during the second period as Golightly moved the puck around the top of the umbrella-style power play to set up a one-timer for the goal.  The second assist of the evening for Golightly came as he moved the puck along the half boards before a cross-ice pass set up the goal that would give Robert Morris a 3-1 lead.

The three assists for Golightly doubled his season total as the defenseman now has six assists on the season.  While playing in 23 games so far, Golightly has also recorded two goals for a total of eight points.  The freshman has also been sound defensively committing only three penalties while maintaining a +3 rating and blocking 15 shots.

Robert Morris will return to action this weekend as they take on Niagara in a home-and-home series.  The Colonials will make the trip to Niagara to take on the nationally-ranked Purple Eagles on Friday night before hosting them at the Island Sports Center on Saturday evening.  Faceoff for both games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
