RMU Picks Up First Win Of 2012-13

The Robert Morris University women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the 2012-13 campaign Friday evening with a 6-3 victory over Slippery Rock at Oxford Center.

Thanks to the win the Colonials improve to 1-9 overall.

RMU picked up singles victories at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 flights while also claiming wins in two of three doubles matches.

At No. 1, junior Carolina Mourao Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) posted a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Sarah Joumond, while junior Samantha Alves (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) followed with three-set win over Kasey Love at No. 2, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-4.

Senior Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) defeated Janelle Krantz, 6-4 and 6-3, at the No. 4 singles flight, while senior Isabella Novella (Santo Andre, Brazil) earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Samantha Bruggeman at No. 6.

In doubles play, Alves and Chen teamed up at the No. 1 flight to down Joumond and Love, 9-8, while Mourao Teixeira and Novella defeated Bruggeman and Courtney Gallagher, 8-4, at No. 3.

RMU returns to the court to continue a three-match homestand Saturday, March 2, with a Noon match against Morgan State.
