Pittsburgh, Pa. – Robert Morris University men's hockey senior forward Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College) surpassed 100 career points with a four-point game in the Colonials 7-4 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday night. Brace, a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award, fueled the Colonials victory by recording a goal and three assists.

The Colonials opened up the scoring when Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) netted his second goal of the weekend as the forward capitalized on a rebound. The rebound opportunity came when freshman forward David Friedmann (Toronto, Ontario / Toronto Jr. Canadiens) looped behind the net on the rush and then dished the puck to sophomore David Rigatti (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Texas Tornado) who fired a low shot on the Pioneers net where Lynch was set up in front of the goaltender.

The Pioneers tied up the affair off a Colonial turnover behind the net. Brace answered in the final minute to give the Colonials the lead heading into the first intermission, 2-1.  The forward blocked a shot in the defensive zone and proceeded to pick up the bouncing puck in the neutral zone before roofing the puck over the Pioneer goaltender.

The Pioneers would tie the game again in the second period before the Colonials answered with three unanswered power-play goals.  Less than three minutes after Sacred Heart tied the game, the Colonials would regain the lead as Cody Wydo (Southgate, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) capitalized on a rebound off of a shot by Colin South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers). Brace picked up his first of three assists on Wydo's first goal of the evening. The Colonials waited only two minutes to increase their lead when South capitalized on an odd-man rush as he and Brace played quickly moved the puck to each other while closing in on the Pioneer net. The third power-play goal for the Colonials came off of the stick of Wydo as the forward banged home a rebound off of a shot from Brace.

Sacred Heart would answer back in the final minutes of the period as the Pioneers netted two goals of their own to make the score 5-4 at the end of the second period.

Sophomore forward Scott Jacklin (Kimberley, British Columbia / Trail Smoke Eaters) and senior forward Zach Hervato (Stittsville, Ontario / Smiths Falls Bears) would each pick up a goal in the third period to add to the Colonials lead as the game ended with a score of 7-4.

The Colonials special teams performed a role reversal in this game as the struggling power play found its groove while the penalty kill that is often relied on – Robert Morris averages over fourteen penalty minutes a game - struggled. The Colonials converted on all four of their power play opportunities while registering eleven shots with the man advantage. The penalty kill allowed two power play goals on four attempts. The sweep of the Pioneers is the first winning streak of the New Year for the Colonials and the first since RMU put together a seven-game unbeaten streak that over the month of December.

The Colonials will look to carry the established momentum when Robert Morris hosts in-state rival Mercyhurst for the first time this season as the Lakers travel to the 84 Lumber Arena on Tuesday for a game scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
