Colonials Compete at YSU National Invite

Moon Township, Pa. - Sophomore Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Driehuis NH) finished second in the pentathlon as the Robert Morris University women's indoor track & field team competed in the Youngstown State National Invite over the weekend.

Van Schie scored 3,399 points in the event, claiming a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.75 meters (41'10.00"). She finished tied for second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.25 seconds and third in the long jump with a leap of 5.25 meters (17'02.75").

Also giving the Colonials a second-place finish was junior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia). She cleared the bar at 1.68 meters (5'06.00") on her second attempt.

Two RMU student-athletes finished in the top seven of the pole vault, led by sophomore Bethany Ledford (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon). Ledford cleared the bar at 3.50 meters (11'05.75") to finish in fifth, while freshman Olivia Loy (Lemonye, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) finished in seventh with her own 3.50 meter vault.

Sophomore Marissa Polk (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) claimed sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:23.89.

Freshman Jessica Guyett (Washington Court House, Ohio / Washington) placed in eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.18 meters (39'11.50").

The Colonials will compete in the Northeast Conference Championships this weekend.
