Moon Township, Pa. – Coming off of a victory against in-state rival Saint Francis (Pa.), a member of the Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team earned recognition from the Northeast Conference for their performance in the contest. Freshman Brittany Byerly picked up her second Rookie of the Week honor this season after scoring four goals in the 21-10 victory over the Red Flash.
Byerly (Wexford, Pa. / Pine-Richland) would open the scoring in the contest as she gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead less than two minutes after the opening draw. She would strike for her second goal of the first half with seven minutes remaining as she successfully converted a free-position attempt.
In the second half, Byerly would add two more goals, the first of which would come ten minutes in to the second stanza as she picked up her second free-position goal of the game to complete her fourth hat trick of the season. The midfielder would pick up her career-best fourth goal of the game just three minutes later as the Colonials were well on their way to staying alive for a post-season berth.
In the contest, Byerly would get four of her five shots on goal past the Red Flash goaltender while converting on both of her free-position attempts. She would also pick up a ground ball and gain possession on two draw controls while causing a Red Flash turnover.
Starting in every game this season for Robert Morris, Byerly currently ranks first on the team in points (38), assists (11), and free-position goals (14). Byerly's 27 goals have her one behind the team-high of 28 even though the midfielder leads the team with 46 shots on goal. She also leads the team in ground balls (28) and is tied for the top spot with 13 caused turnovers.
With one weekend of regular season play remaining, Robert Morris remains in the thick of the postseason picture for the NEC. Currently sitting in fifth place, just a game out of a tie for third place, the Colonials will hit the road and head to the state of Connecticut where they will take on Quinnipiac in a match on Friday at 3:00 p.m. before closing out the regular season slate with a game against Sacred Heart at Noon on Sunday.
