Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's tennis team concluded its 2012-13 campaign Friday morning by falling to No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Northeast Conference Tournament at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
RMU, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, finishes the year with an overall record of 4-18.
The Knights claimed the doubles point and also earned victories at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles flights to secure the win and advance to the semifinals of the championships.
Junior Carolina Mourao Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) fell at the No. 1 singles flight, 6-1 and 6-1, to Anna Rapoport, while senior Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback to Celine Maier at No. 4.
At No. 5, freshman Dounia Zinbi (Halle, Belgium) took on Dina Guzairova before falling, 6-0 and 6-1.
In doubles action, Rapoport and Nicole Chis of FDU teamed up for an 8-2 victory over freshman Sophie-Marie Heine (Wanze, Belgium) and Zinbi at the No. 1 flight, while Chen and senior Samantha Alves (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) suffered an 8-3 setback to Egzona Morina and Maier.
