The Robert Morris University women's track & field team finished fifth out of 25 teams in the Morgan State Legacy Meet at Baltimore, Md. this past weekend.
Junior Rachel Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) led the Colonials with a second-place finish in the javelin, hitting a mark of 38.09 meters (125'00”). Fellow junior Mekia Kauffman (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) finished right behind her with a throw of 37.08 meters (121'08”).
Senior Megan Green (Bellaire, Ohio / Bellaire) placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 12.49 meters (40'11.75”).
Sophomore Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Driehuis NH) won the shot put in the heptathlon, which catapulted her into a fifth-place finish (4403 points) overall in the event.
Junior Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) finished fourth in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 4:51.21. That time was good enough for her second best of the season.
Senior Justene Delman (Bellaire, Ohio / Saint John's Central) broke three personal records in the meet. Delman clocked in at 12.64 seconds in the 100-meter dash, and at 25.67 seconds in the 200-meter dash. She also leapt 5.34 meters (17'06.25”) in the long jump.
Sophomore Bethany Ledford (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) was one of two RMU student-athletes to gain points in the pole vault. Ledford's mark of 3.46 meters (11'04.25”) placed her third, while freshman Olivia Loy (Lemoyne, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) finished sixth with a vault of 3.31 meters (10'10.25”).
Junior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volvograd, Russia) placed in two events over the weekend. Vasilyeva's leap of 1.58 meters (5'02.05”) was good enough for fifth in the high jump, while her mark of 11.81 meters (38'09”) picked up a seventh-place finish in the triple jump.
The Colonial women travel to neighboring Ohio next Saturday for the Ashland Open.
