Robert Morris University field hockey team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Towson this afternoon.
Freshman
Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University) tallied the final two goals of the contest, putting the finishing touches on what was a dominant Colonial performance. The first score came in the 56
th minute off a penalty stroke, then a little less than eight minutes later, the freshman gathered a rebound and buried a shot from the top of the arc.
RMU held a 12-4 advantage in first half shots, yet held just a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break. Junior
Taleah Scott (Crookwell, Australia / Crookwell) found the back of the net for the third straight game, deflecting a strike from sophomore
Sophie Watt (Sawtell, Australia / John Paul College) in the 27
th minute.
Sophomore
Jess Martin-Brown (Mount Gambrier, Australia / University of Adelaide) netted her fourth goal in three games in the 51
st minute, as she deflected a shot in from Watt. Watt ended the day with two assists, doubling her total amount of helpers going into today's contest.
Erin McKenzie (Lismore, Australia / University of Queensland Tech) earned the fifth shutout of her junior campaign, stopping the only shot on net that she faced. After four shots in the first half, the Tigers were held without an attempt in the last 35 minutes.
In addition to a 30-4 difference on shots, the Colonials also held advantages in shots on goal (16 to 1) and penalty corners (9 to 1).
RMU improves to 6-3 – which continues the best start in program history – and will host Ohio on Sunday at noon.
