Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University field hockey team stands one win away from tying a single-season school record after defeating Ohio, 5-2, this afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.

The Colonials notched eight wins in 2011, headlined by a 1-0 overtime victory against the No. 15 Bobcats in Moon Township.

RMU's last two contests with Ohio were each decided by one goal, and another close game looked to be in the cards after the first half, as the score was 1-1 through 35 minutes.

Junior Jamie Hartley (Tamworth, Australia / University of Newcastle) struck first for the Colonials in the 16th minute, burying a shot from ten yards out. The Bobcats would tie it up in the 29th minute after Jessica Jue one-timed home a pass from Luli Gomez Teruel.

RMU picked up goals less than three minutes apart early in the second half, putting pressure on Ohio to answer. Sophomore Jess Martin-Brown (Mount Gambier, Australia / University of Adelaide) gathered a pass from freshman Simone Bindels (Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, NLD / Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer) and found the back of the net in the 41st minute, then junior Julianne Alspaugh (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) registered the first goal of her career after collecting a pass from sophomore Sophie Watt (Sawtell, Australia / John Paul College) off a penalty corner.

Freshman Chloe McIlwaine (Belfast, Ireland / Northumbria University) extended her point streak to seven games in the 53rd minute, scoring off a penalty stroke to make it 4-1. The Bobcats' Ashley Cureton would score a minute later to cut the deficit to two, but McIlwaine struck again off a penalty corner. Hartley and Watt each notched their second assists of the contest on the freshman's goal.

"I was impressed with our team's ability to play a high pressure game and get the win," said head coach Olivia Netzler. "We made adjustments to our defense and the team reacted very well. It was a fantastic team effort."

The Colonials held advantages in shots (9 to 7), shots on goal (9 to 5), and penalty corners (7 to 6).

RMU is back on the road next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Radford.
