Apalachin, N.Y. - The
Robert Morris University men's golf team recorded a team-record score of four-under and sits second after 18 of a scheduled 36 holes at the Binghamton Fall Invitational. The Colonials posted a team score of 284 on the 7,159-yard, par-72 layout at The Links at Hiawatha Landing and sit five shots behind Delaware.
The highlight of the day came from senior
Matt Gurska who carded his first career hole-in-one, sinking a seven-iron on the 180-yard 13th hole. Gurska, playing as an individual, finished his round with a 76 and is tied for 42nd.Â
Delaware's 279 leads the pack followed by RMU in second (284) and host Binghamton in third (286). Hofstra is fourth (289) followed by Bucknell (290), Fairleigh Dickinson (294), Ottawa (295), Lafayette (298), St. Bonaventure (300), Rider (301), LIU Brooklyn (303), Colgate and Canisius (304), Monmouth (305), UMass Lowell (307) and Niagara (313).
The Colonials 284 is the second-lowest number in program history while the four-under is a record for team score in relation to par. The squad was led by
Ryan Prokay's round of 70 which has him tied for sixth place in the 91 player field.
Garrett Browning and
Santiago Mejia each came home in 71 strokes, teid for eighth place.
Grant Schumaker shot even-par 72 for 13th while
Dan Maier, who carded a 73, sits in 24th position.
The second and final round of the event is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
