Brett Again Named NEC Player of the Year

Speedy Williams earns a spot on the All-NEC First Team.

Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University men's soccer junior forward Neco Brett was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while senior midfielder Speedy Williams earned a spot on the All-NEC First Team.

Brett, the 2013 NEC Player of the Year as well, leads the nation in scoring with just three days remaining in the nation's regular season slate. The Kingston, Jamaica, native has 33 points on a nation's best 15 goals and three assists. The goal total is tied for the third in Colonials single-season annals while his point output is fifth best.

With five points in the first two games of the season, Brett got off to a running start. He went on to record 12 goals in the team's first 13 games, including a four goal performance in a 4-0 win against George Washington. It marked the second-most goals in team history and was the 15th hat trick in team history and the second for Brett. It was one of his three multi-goal games.

Brett is the third player in RMU history to be named NEC Player of the Year and is the first in team history to earn the honor more than once. Just a junior, he is already seventh at RMU with 69 career points despite not recording a single point in his freshman campaign. His 29 goals are tied for sixth while his sits just outside the program's top-15 with 11 assists.

Williams, who also calls Jamaica home, was an All-NEC First Team pick, moving up after earning second-team honors as a junior. The central midfielder had a career-best 14 points in his senior campaign. The total, comprised of six goals and four assists, was the sixth-best output among league players. Williams point total was second only to Brett's among Colonial players.

He scored single goals against Rider, VMI, Duquesne and Sacred Heart. In a 4-0 win over George Washington, Williams picked up a helper on three of the team's goals. That assist total is tied for second most in team history.

Robert Morris led the NEC in points (78), goals (26) and assists (26) for the second straight season.
