MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team is set to play its final non-conference game of the 2026 season Tuesday, traveling to take on #2/#6 Akron. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-2-2, 1-0-1 #HLMSOC) is coming off a 1-1 draw against Oakland in its second Horizon League match of the season Saturday at the North Athletic Complex.
Anelson Azard scored the Colonials' lone goal, while senior captain
Josh Lane made five saves in goal.
Azard leads RMU with five goals this season, while
John Krug owns a team-high three assists. Sophomore
Riley Cotton has added two goals and two assists. Junior defender
Abdul Kamara has logged a team-high 680 minutes on the pitch. In goal, Lane has recorded four wins and two shutouts on the season.
ALL-TIME VS. AKRON
Akron has won nine of the 10 all-time meetings between the two programs. RMU's lone victory came in 1996, when the Colonials earned a 1-0 overtime win over the Zips. The most recent meeting between the teams came in 2021.
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
Akron (4-0-2, 0-0-1 #BigEast) enters Tuesday's match unbeaten through six games. The Zips are ranked No. 2 in the TopDrawerSoccer rankings and No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Akron is coming off a scoreless draw against Butler in its first Big East match of the season.
Jack Sullivan and Noa Testa have each scored twice for the Zips, while midfielder Thomas O'Rourke leads the team with three assists and five points. Senior defender Matthew Paiva has played a team-high 531 minutes. In goal, Brett Kaminski has started all six matches, recording four wins and four shutouts.
Last season, Akron finished 13-5-3 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play. The Zips advanced to the NCAA Tournament and reached the Elite Eight.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Akron defeated Dayton, an opponent RMU faced in a preseason scrimmage. Both programs are also scheduled to face Cleveland State later this season in October.
