MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team is set to host its first conference game of the season, welcoming Oakland to the North Athletic Complex on Saturday, September 19 at 3:00 p.m. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-2-1, 1-0 #HLMSOC) is coming off its first loss in weeks. After going unbeaten through five games and earning a 5-2 victory at Detroit Mercy in its conference opener, the Colonials fell 1-0 to Mercyhurst. Despite outshooting the Lakers, 19-4, RMU was unable to find the back of the net.
Through seven games, junior forward
Anelson Azard leads the Colonials with four goals, while sophomore
John Krug has a team-high three assists.
Riley Cotton ranks second on the team in points with two goals and two assists.
Defensively, junior
Abdul Kamara leads the team with 591 minutes played. In goal, senior
Josh Lane has earned four wins and recorded two shutouts.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
The Colonials have found success at home under head coach
Jonathan Potter. Since Potter took over in 2023, RMU is 13-6-8 (.630) at the North Athletic Complex.
In conference games at home, the Colonials are 7-2-6 (.667) since 2023 and have not lost a Horizon League home match since October of 2023.
ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
RMU is 1-6-2 all-time against Oakland, but the Colonials have found success against the Golden Grizzlies in recent seasons.
After going winless against Oakland from 2019 through 2023, RMU met the Golden Grizzlies in the 2024 Horizon League Championship game, earning a 1-0 victory on a spectacular strike from RMU alum

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland (2-2-2, 1-0-1 #HLMSOC) is coming off its first two conference games of the season last week. The Golden Grizzlies defeated Cleveland State, 2-0, before battling Northern Illinois to a 1-1 draw.
In non-conference play, Oakland defeated UIC, tied Marquette and suffered losses to Grand Canyon and Wisconsin.
Through six games, redshirt freshman Cal Kurzawa leads the team in points with three goals and one assist, while junior forward Stephen Gilbert has a team-high three assists. In goal, redshirt sophomore Cole Thompson has started all six games, earning two wins, one clean sheet and making 25 saves.
Last season, Oakland finished with a 3-9-6 overall record and a 3-3-3 mark in Horizon League play. The Golden Grizzlies earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament before falling to No. 3 Green Bay, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round.
