Moon Township, Pa. – Senior
Aubree Ray of the
Robert Morris University indoor track & field team was chosen as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league in the first release of the season.
Ray becomes the third active Colonial to have won a weekly league award for performance in a field event, joining junior
Jessica Guyett and sophomore
April Krivoniak, who both took home honors in the 2013-14 season.
Ray claimed the award after an impressive performance to open the season at the Navy Lid Lifter. The senior won the shot put going away with a toss of 13.73 meters, more than three-quarters of a meter ahead of her closest competitor. In doing so, she became only the fourth Colonial ever to surpass 45 feet in that discipline. Ray's distance qualified her for the ECAC Championships, was the best in the league in the season's opening week and ranks among the top 40 nationally for the season. Ray wasn't finished as she added her second personal record of the night at Navy with a second-place finish in the weight throw thanks to a fling of 14.39 meters, a mark which ranks among the top eight in the league in that discipline.
Ray claims the first weekly indoor honor of her career with this announcement although she did previously win a NEC weekly award during the outdoor season.
Ray and her teammates will take time off for the upcoming semester break before resuming action at the Penn State Indoor Relays Jan. 10.
