Brooklyn, N.Y. – Senior guard
Karvel Anderson (Elkhart, Ind. / Glen Oaks Community College) scored all of his game-high 16 points in the second half to help lift the
Robert Morris University men's basketball team to a 65-56 victory over LIU Brooklyn Thursday at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
The Colonials improved to 13-11 overall and 8-1 in the Northeast Conference with the win, while the Blackbirds fell to 7-15 overall and 2-7 in league play.
Saddled with two early fouls and having played just seven minutes in the first half, Anderson hit a pair of three-pointers in the first 49 seconds of the second half to help RMU turn a 27-24 halftime advantage into a 33-24 lead.

Anthony Myers-Pate (Washington, D.C. / Charis Prep) and junior guard
Charles Oliver (Scotch Plains, N.J. / Lakeland Community College) each connected from deep.
Oliver's triple gave the Colonials a 41-29 lead at the 15:18 mark of the second half. Twice in the next two minutes LIU Brooklyn would trim its deficit to seven, but a 9-2 surge that featured five points from Anderson and four from sophomore forward
Stephan Hawkins (Gary, Ind. / Â Bowman Academy) gave RMU its biggest lead of the contest, 52-38, with 10:40 to go.
The cushion stayed in double digits for Robert Morris until the Blackbirds put together an 8-2 spurt that was capped by a three-point play by E.J. Reed and helped LIU Brooklyn close to within 56-49 with 6:14 remaining.
Anderson responded for the Colonials, as his fourth three-pointer of the game pushed the cushion for Robert Morris back to double digits, 59-49. Oliver followed with a layup with 4:05 to go to make it 61-49, and the Blackbirds never threatened the rest of the way.
In the first half, RMU jumped out to a quick 10-0 advantage in the first five minutes of the game before LIU Brooklyn reeled off 14 unanswered points to grab a 14-10 lead with 8:57 left before the break.
Trailing, 24-21, at the 2:23 mark of the first half, the Colonials scored the final six points of the stanza to take a 27-24 lead at intermission, including a jumper from junior forward
Lucky Jones (Newark, N.J. / St. Anthony) with two seconds to go.
Anderson shot 6-for-13 from the field, including 4-of-8 from deep, in reaching double figures for the 23rd time in 24 games this season. He also added three rebounds and three assists.
Hawkins finished with 10 points and four boards for Robert Morris, while Jones, Oliver and Myers-Pate each score nine. Sophomore forward
Aaron Tate (New Bern, N.C. / Dodge City Community College), meanwhile, added five points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
LIU Brooklyn was led by Reed, who recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, while Troy Joseph added 11 points.
Robert Morris concludes its two-game swing through Brooklyn, N.Y. as part of a three-game road swing Saturday, Feb. 8, with a 2:00 p.m. tip against St. Francis Brooklyn at the Pope P.E. Center.
