Santiago Mejia and the Robert Morris University men's golf team find themselves on top of the standings after the first round of the 36-hole Lonnie Barton Invitational being played at the LPGA International Champions Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. The event is the first of the spring season for the Colonials.
Mejia carded a one-under par round of 71, his third round below par this season and the fourth time he has posted a score of 71 this season.Â
The Colonials 10-over round of 298 gives them a five stroke lead over second-place Fairleigh Dickinson and a seven-stroke lead over Bryant. Sacred Heart and Saint Francis U are tied for fourth with 319 followed by LIU Brooklyn and Division III St. Lawrence (329), Wagner (330), Siena (332) and St. Francis College (338).
Garrett Browning is tied for third, two strokes out of the lead with a score of 73.
Matt Gurska shot a first round 75 that puts him eighth in the field of 64.Â
Dean Hitt posted a 79 and is tied for 16th while
Dan Maier's 82 puts him in a tie for 30th.
