Sleith Named NEC Pitcher of the Week

Junior takes home second weekly award of season

Moon Township, Pa. – Junior Nicole Sleith (Smithton, Pa. / Yough) of the Robert Morris University softball team was selected as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league Monday.

Sleith earned her second such honor of the season after an impressive showing at the University of Delaware Invitational.

Sleith capped off her weekend in Delaware in remarkable fashion as she twirled an eight-inning no-hitter in a 1-0 win over BIG EAST foe Villanova. It was the second no-hitter of her career, making her just the third Colonial ever to post multiple no-no's in a career. She maintained the shutout as well even though the eighth inning for each team began with a runner on second base with the international tiebreaker in effect. It was her fifth shutout of the season and the 16th of her career. Sleith also posted a complete-game win over Delaware on the weekend in which she allowed five hits and a lone run while striking out 10 without walking a batter. That marked her second straight outing with double-digit strikeouts as she had struck out 12 batters against BIG EAST foe St. John's but took the loss due to no run support.

For the weekend, she allowed opponents to hit just .133 off of her and tallied 31 strikeouts against just two walks in 21.1 innings of work. She compiled a 1.31 ERA in four appearances.

Sleith is 9-3 on the year with five shutouts in 12 starts and owns a 0.91 ERA.

Sleith notched her 10th career Pitcher of the Week accolade with this announcement and the 15th weekly honor of her career, extending the RMU program record in both categories.

After playing their first 24 games away from home, Sleith and her teammates will open play on their own campus when they resume action this coming weekend with contests against Niagara, Miami (Ohio), Siena and Akron. They will play six games, two each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as they host the inaugural RMU Colonial Classic.
