Ray Wins Discus at Wake Forest

Kotula, Vasilyeva also net top-three finishes at meet

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Junior Aubree Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) won the discus to highlight the season-opening meet for the Robert Morris University women's outdoor track & field team as the Colonials participated in the Wake Forest Open this past weekend at Kentner Stadium.
 
Ray was one of a trio of Colonials who tallied a top-three finish to kick off the outdoor campaign.
 
Ray placed first among 41 competitors in the discus by tossing it 46.58 meters. In doing so, she surpassed the ECAC qualifying standard by over four meters. The distance represents the third-best mark in school history, placing behind only two throws that Ray made one year ago.
 
Senior Yulia Vasilyeva (Volgograd, Russia) finished second among 28 entrants in the triple jump with a bound of 11.88 meters. The leap is a new career best for Vasilyeva and is also the fourth-best mark in school history.
 
Senior Rachael Kotula (East Berlin, Pa. / Bermudian Springs) joined Ray in qualifying for the ECAC Championships as her heave of 46.85 meters in the javelin put her in third among 43 participants. Kotula surpassed the ECAC standard by over five meters in registering the ninth-best mark in program history. Kotula just missed a top-10 finish in the discus as she placed 11th with a mark of 40.04 meters.
 
Senior Lindsay Erath (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) led RMU on the track as she placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by finishing in a time of 11:29.64, one of the top 10 marks in school history. Erath also ran the 3,000 meters, which she finished in 10:43.53, the sixth-fastest time in program history.
 
Junior Alexis Ebersole (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) ran a strong race in the 800 meters as she finished 18th of 85 participants by stopping the clock in 2:18.96. She also ran the 1500 meters in a time of 4:53.79.
 
Junior Bethany Ledford (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) cleared 3.55 meters in the invitational section of the pole vault to post the second-best mark in school history. Ledford also competed in the high jump and cleared 1.55 meters in that discipline.
 
Junior Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Driehuis NH) tallied a top-10 finish in the long jump as she placed ninth among 43 competitors with a leap of 5.37 meters.
 
Sophomore Jessica Guyett (Washington Court House, Ohio / Washington) notched a heave of 12.18 meters in the shot put to place 11th among 44 individuals who competed in the event.
 
Team scoring was not kept at the meet.
