Wydo, Izyk Recipients of AHA Monthly Awards

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - April 9, 2014 - Even though the season has come to an end, the accolades keep coming in for the Robert Morris University men's hockey team.  A pair of Colonials garnered attention from Atlantic Hockey as the conference handed out its monthly awards.

Junior forward Cody Wydo (Southgate, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) was named the Pop Tops Sportswear Player of the Month while freshman goaltender Dalton Izyk (Oswego, N.Y. / Indiana Ice) was honored as the Pop Tops Sportswear Goaltender of the Month.

Wydo recorded a point in eight of the nine Robert Morris games in March and also recorded three multi-point contests and two four-point affairs.

Wydo established a new program record at Robert Morris with the 65th goal of his career in the NCAA West Regional against Minnesota.  In the AHA Championship, Wydo recorded his third hat trick of the season and second four-point game of the month in a 7-4 victory over Canisius.  Wydo's first four-point game in March came against Army in the first round of the AHA Playoffs when he recorded two goals and two assists in an 8-4 victory over the Black Knights.

Wydo's nine goals and 15 points were the most in the NCAA during the month of March while his 39 shots on goal were the second-most in the country.

Izyk led Robert Morris to its first NCAA Tournament berth after stepping into the cage during the first round of the AHA Playoffs.  Izyk won five-consecutive games in the AHA Playoffs before suffering the loss to Minnesota in the NCAA West Regional.

In just his second game of playoff action, Izyk recorded his first-career shutout, a 3-0 blanking of Connecticut in the AHA Quarterfinals.  In the AHA Semifinals against Niagara, Izyk became the fourth goaltender in program history to have a 50+ save performance as he turned away 51 shots in a 5-4 overtime victory.

Izyk's 203 saves were that ninth-most in the NCAA during March contests while his five wins were the fifth-most in the country.

Robert Morris will start the 2014-15 season with the loss of six senior, three of which saw significant playing time in the 2013-14 campaign.
