Colonials Third After First Day of NEC Championships

Halley Morell fires one-over par round of 73 and sits third.

Daytona Beach, Fla. / LPGA International – Sophomore Halley Morell fired a one-over par round of 73 while helping the Robert Morris University women's golf team to third place after one of three rounds at the 2014 Northeast Conference Championships Friday. The event is being held at the Champions Course of the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
 
The Colonials carded a 313 in the first round and sit behind LIU Brooklyn (299) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (305). Sacred Heart is fourth (320) followed by Fairleigh Dickinson (322), Central Connecticut State and Wagner (326) and Saint Francis Brooklyn in eighth (347).
 
Morell finished her first round of play with three birdies and 13 pars. She shot one-under par 35 on the back-nine of the 6,045-yard, par-72 layout. She is three strokes off the pace of Brianna Maynard (70) and two shots back of Marisol Doglioli, both players from LIU Brooklyn.
 
Senior Annie Bozich posted a first round score of 79 and sits in a four-way tie for 11th. Her round was highlighted by birdies on the par four first and third holes. Sophomore Amanda Reach also had a pair of birdies en route to an 80 and a tie for 15th. She birdied the par five 16th hole and the par-four eighth.
 
Freshman Chloe Wong is tied for 18th after 18 holes following her opening score of 81. Sophomore Gianna Pro came home with an 89 and finds herself in 34th position.
 
Round two of the 54-hole event is scheduled to get under way Saturday, April 26.
